How To Clean Your Fountain Pen

Introduction

Fountain pens have something different that evokes everyone to write with it. The classic feeling of the body and the beautiful gliding down of writing flow makes it the center of attraction. But we cannot deny the fact that fountain pens need a lot of care to remain in good condition for a longer period of time. Thus it is very important to clean your fountain pen regularly.

 

The ink feeder is the major matter of concern. The nib and cartridge need to be cleaned. A lot of dust, dried ink and paper fiber get stuck in the nib. If it is not cleaned regularly, the writing gets difficult and the ink starts skipping.

 

Thus , you need to pamper your fountain pen to give it a longer life. There are a number of methods to clean your fountain pen. Let's discuss each of them one by one.

How to clean it ?

Method 1 : Basic Cleaning

As the word basic says it all, it is a very simple yet impactful method of cleaning a Fountain pen. You should repeat this process every 4 to 8 weeks to keep your pen in a good working condition for a longer time. You don’t need to gather so many things in order to clean the pen. You just need a bowl, some lukewarm water and a fluffed paper towel.

The following steps will help you clean your fountain pen better :

  • 1. Remove the cap of the pen and unscrew the body from the nib section. Place the body aside and heat some water parallelly.
  • 2. Hold the nib section upside down and start pouring water in the nib section. This will help the dried ink and any other material to flow out from the nib and give the nib a clear route to flow the ink smoothly.
  • 3. After doing this, put the nib section of the pen in lukewarm water to let any stucked material release easily.
  • 4. Rinse the pen well and clean any ink left on the nib section with bare hands and put the nib on the fluffed paper towel.
  • 5. Dry the nib section well and you are done with the cleaning of the nib easily and that too in 15 mins only.
  • 6. Assemble the pen and you are ready to use it with an all new feel again.

Method 2 : Deep Cleansing with Vinegar The vinegar

will help in the ultimate cleaning of the pen. It will give a deeper cleansing and you wouldn’t need to clean it for a longer time. You will need the following items for deep cleansing of your fountain pen.

● White vinegar – enough to soak the pen parts

● Dawn liquid dish soap – ¼ teaspoon

● Water – ¼ cup

â—Ź Microfiber cloth

Clean the Nib Section First :

  • 1. Dismantle your fountain pen.
  • 2. Put the Nib Section Upside Down under the runnin
  • g water until the clean water starts flowing from the ink.
  • 3. Rinse the other parts of the pen as well.

Clean the outer body of the pen with soap solution

  • 1. Put some soap and half a cup of water in a cup and mix it well.
  • 2. Soak the dry towel in the solution and clean the body of the pen with it. It may take time for a few spots to don’t get cleaned up easily but a little effort will make it happen.
  • 4. Rinse the body with plain water again and keep it for drying.

Clean the nib of the pen separately.

  • 1. Dip the nib of the pen in the vinegar for 15 mins.
  • 2. Wipe the nib with a microfiber cloth and you are done with the nib.

Reset the pen again and you're ready to use it.
